Born February 24, 1922 in Plant City, Florida, he was the son of the late James and Estelle Lewis.
It is with great honor today we lay to rest Mr. Jessey Edward Lewis a United States Army Veteran from World War II. He served with the 383rd regiment 96 division from 1942 to 1945. Jessey Lewis was bravely fighting against the Japanese army in the Philippines at Leyte Island and Okinawa Island under General Douglas MacArthur. Jessey and his comrades fought side-by-side gallantly to preserve the freedoms of our great nation through their selfless acts of heroism. He always reminded us how his mother prayed for him, and God kept him safe.
Jessey had several duties while in the army. To begin with he freely enlisted as a G.I. at the young age of 17. After being recognized for his exceptional skills and eyesight he was moved to artillery, in which he did an outstanding job at spotting the enemy. This enabled them to take out heavily armed militarized areas so that the American troops good advance with less casualties. He later was ranked Sergeant. We proudly thank you all that served with you and your fallen comrades for your service and commend you for all of your selfless acts!
After serving in the army during World War II, Jessy moved to Michigan, where he worked in the trucking business, automotive industry, and building houses on the side. Including the ones his children grew up in. In Michigan, he met the love of his life, Gladys.
Jessey was a loving husband to his wife, Gladys Lewis, (he nicknamed, Bonnie). They were married for seventy-two years. They had six children, whom he loved dearly and taught them many life lessons including putting God first in their lives! His oldest son, James Lewis, followed by Debra Williams, Sheryl Lewis, Michael Lewis, Christopher Lewis, and Timothy Lewis. Jessey was a great provider and loving father and grandfather of 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
After retiring from Chrysler, he moved back to Florida and started a plant nursery, which he loved to work in and was very proud of!
He had a strong belief in God’s word, believed the King James Bible to be the true word of God. Through God's grace and Jesus, dying on the cross for his sins, he accepted Jesus as his savior. He knew when he left this earth he would be with the Lord in heaven! Jessey always prayed for his family and loved ones to get saved, he wanted everyone he loved to be there with him someday
Jessey’s life mission was to win souls for Christ and to share God's love! He touched many lives and made a great and wonderful impact on his family, community, friends, and church family.
God looked down from his throne of grace, and saw his loving servant and called him home.
