THOMAS, Margaret Mary (Bernier), 99, longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Spring Hill, Florida, peacefully passed away surrounded by family, Saturday, December 11, 2021, in Hernando Pasco Hospice, Brooksville, Florida. Margaret was born in 1922 and raised in Hazardville (Enfield), Connecticut one of three children to the late Leon and Nellie Bernier. Following a courtship during WWII, she became engaged and married Jack Thomas her loving husband of 77 years, cherishing their time together and raising their loving family. Margaret is survived by her husband Jack, her three children, son Kenneth of Spring Hill, son Donald of Tarpon Springs, and daughter Patricia of Atlanta. Also, she is survived by four grandchildren.
As a life-long member of the Catholic Church, she was a Sodality of Mary member of St. Thomas More Cathedral and a member of the CCW of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Margaret extensively traveled to worldwide destinations including British Columbia, Croatia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Spain. Her favorite trip was a "this is your life" adventure to Connecticut, Maine, and Nova Scotia. She thoroughly enjoyed her hobbies of, assembling thousand-piece puzzles and copiously reading works of fiction. Margaret was known for her kindness, an encouraging word for family and friends, sage advice, and a prayer. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be at Merritt Funeral Home at 4095 Mariner Boulevard, Spring Hill, Florida 34609 on Thursday, December 16th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Margaret’s life will be on Friday, December 17th 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, Florida 34609. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery Bushnell on Friday, December 17th 11:30 am, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
