

VARN, Myra R., 88, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 in her lifelong hometown of Brooksville, Florida. She graduated from Hernando High School in 1945 and attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee, Florida. Upon returning to Brooksville she married Thomas L. Varn after his WWII military service ended. Her Christian upbringing and love for the Lord fostered an unwavering commitment of service within the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered in many ministries of the church including Sunday School teacher, Historian, choir member, and the Women Serving God church group. Her life of service extended beyond the church as she was also a member of the Junior Service League. Spending time with family and friends was one of her greatest joys and she was an avid Bridge player who enjoyed being part of various Bridge clubs in town. She worked for Gulf Coast Title followed by employment for the Hernando County Clerk of The Circuit Court where she retired after 24 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Leland Varn; her parents, Edwin and Gaye Russell; her siblings, Naomi Russell, Jewell Russell Underwood, and Wallace Russell. She is survived by her children, Loraine McLain (Tommie), Tom Varn Jr. (Beth), and Brenda Hagen (Chip) as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00, Friday, July 3, 2015 followed by funeral services at 2:00. Both will be held at the First United Methodist Church with the burial service immediately following at Brooksville Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the church at the conclusion of the burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
