BACKUS, Richard Steven, 70, of Brooksville, FL died Friday, January 6, 2017 at his home. He was born in Bethesda, MD and came to the area 19 years ago from St. Petersburg, FL. Mr. Backus earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Maryland University and was the owner/operator of Richard Backus Custom Builders in Maryland and Washington, D.C. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. He was predeceased by his parents: W. Meril Backus and Marjorie Estes-Backus. He is survived by his wife Deborah Backus of Brooksville; daughter: Jennifer Backus-Moriarty of GA; step-son: Robert Kirkpatrick of FL; beloved sisters: Carole Jeanne Backus-West of NC; Sharon Lynn Backus-Hanson of VA. He will be buried in the Van devender plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV.
