Robert Thomas Armstrong, age 82, of Manhattan, NY, (Bob, Bobby), passed on January 30, 2025. He was born on May 29, 1942, in Ozone Park, Queens, NY, to John and Rita Armstrong (née Downey). Bob was battling with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia at the time of his passing while being cared for in Dade City, Florida.
He is survived by his long term partner, Craig Longley; ex-wife, Judith; daughter, Susan Elorriaga (Jason); son, David (Jennifer); granddaughter, Mia; grandson, Christopher; sister, Doris Romano (Robert); and many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is predeceased by his three brothers: John, James, and Donald.
Bob began his career in the furniture manufacturing business. He loved to see something beautiful being made from its pieces. After completing his bachelor’s degree in economics, he transitioned to school safety, and later to the position of Director of the Mayor’s Office of Personnel Services for the City of NY. Bob retired in 2004 from the NYC Department of Finance.
Bob loved to study European History just prior to WW I, and was brilliant at knowing all the details of the Royal Families of Europe. He and Craig traveled extensively across the US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Argentina, and Europe, and enjoyed years of wonderful friendships. Bob also loved researching his ancestry.
Bob truly loved his children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to him. Like most of the Armstrongs, he was full of personality.
Bob is now with the angels. May he rest in peace knowing that he had a life well-lived and that he was loved tremendously. Special thanks to Carmen Fields, Karen Buckman, and Cecelia Serrato for the care they gave to him so that he might live his last year and die with dignity. Bob will be interred at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, NY.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm, Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Merritt Funeral Home Brooksville (2 South Lemon Avenue, Brooksville FL 34601), where Services begin at 1:00pm. A Reception will follow from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
