

William was born and raised in San Francisco, California. After two years of active duty in the U.S. Army, he joined the California National Guard and worked for 15 years as a Radar and Computer repairman at the Surface to Air Missile site which was part of the San Francisco Air Defense. He moved to Fresno to work in Avionics repair for the National Guard and from 1979-1994 he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. William finished his working career with Raytheon and then the Harris Corporation in Los Angeles (Air Traffic Control Center), retiring in 1998. After retiring, he moved to Northern Arizona, Chino Valley, where he invested in land and rental properties. In 2016 he bought a home in Spring Hill, Florida and enjoyed the new lifestyle.
William was a member of the Elks Club, Hernando Computer Club, and the Hernando Beach Yacht Club. He loved traveling with his wife, especially going on cruises.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi Ann Ausmus. He is survived by his wife: Norma of Spring Hill, Florida; son: James McCreery of Clovis, California; daughter: Jane McCreery of Chowchilla, California; sister: Nancy Tooman of Spring Hill, Florida; four grandchildren: Barbara Bunstein, Gary L. Sims, Cassey Ausmus, and Evan Stockbridge; 13 great-grandchildren.
A Gathering will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel, where a Memorial Service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00pm.
