He was born December 6, 1939 in New York City, New York and came to the area 33 years ago. He was a United States Marine veteran and he retired from the New York Police Department. He was a parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 29 in New York City, Knights of Columbus and the Hernando County Republican Club.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Catalana. He is survived by his wife, Clare O'Shaughnessy; sons, John O'Shaughnessy of Atlanta, Georgia, Patrick O'Shaughnessy of Long Island, New York and William O'Shaughnessy III of Estes Park, Colorado; daughter, Lisa Leib of Long Island, New York; brother, Thomas O'Shaughnessy of Long Island, New York; sisters, Patricia Camera of New York, Frances Goldberg and Marilyn Sager, both of Nevada; and six grandchildren.
