Alice Townsend Young

Alice Townsend Young, 89, of Darien, departed this life Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, February 27, 2023 from 2:30pm until 3pm at First Baptist Church of Darien, a celebration of life will be conducted at 3pm with Rev. Jack Peeler and Robert Alvin Young officiating.

Born March 7, 1933 in Darien to the late George Morrie and Rose Zella C. Townsend, she was a graduate of Darien High School Class of 1950. Mrs. Young was a Postal Clerk and member of First Baptist Church of Darien. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and feeding the birds, and was a lifelong resident of Darien. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward “Ted” Young, a grandson, Ryan Martin, three brother, Jessie Hargrove, James S. “Jimmy” Townsend, and Joe C. Townsend, and four sisters, Margaret Hargrove Rhodes, Evonia Hargrove Griffin, Clifford Townsend, and Lillian Townsend.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Martin and Marilyn Hutto both of Darien, a grandson, Aaron Hutto and wife Lennae, two great grandchildren, Talon and Jace Hutto, and a brother, William R. “Bill” Townsend and wife Lila of Margate, FL.
