

Alvin Ernese Potter at the age of 90 passed away on Jan 13, 2015 in Brunswick Ga. Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 17, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with ministers Mark Ward and Keith Crews officiating. Entombment will follow at Palmetto Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his 1st wife of 52 years Elise Potter and 1st child Mary Elizabeth Potter. Pallbearers will be Ray Potter Jr, Darrel Wiggins, Van Reddick, Jeffery Potter, Rickey Potter Jr, David Crews, Dyllan Simko , and Trevor Simko. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Area 4 Maintenance Department Georgia Pacific Pulp and Paper, and Jimmy Mancil. Afterwards there will be a celebration of Life held at the 1st Pentecostal Church on 341 where there will be music and singing and dinner. Everyone is welcome to come sing and play.
Mr. Potter was a native of Screven Co Ga. and has been a resident of Brunswick since 1942. He was retired from Brunswick Pulp and Paper after 32 years of Service. He was a member of Church of Christ in Brunswick He had also been employed by the Glynn County School System as a bus driver. He had been very active in the county as he was a Past Chief of the Civil Defense Rescue Squad for years. He served as a state of Georgia Rescue Instructor for 4 years. He was an American Red Cross Instructor in First Aid and CPR for 5 years. Most people knew Mr. Potter for his love of flying and making people laugh. He enjoyed flying church Groups. He was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard for 2 years where he received an Honorable Discharge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin S. Potter, Ivy J. Potter, and Willard Neal Potter, and a sister, Erthline Harris.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Betty Potter, 2 Sons Alvin Ray Potter Sr. and wife Kathy, Rickey Wesley Potter Sr. and wife Karryn, 3 Daughters Gerri Lipthratt and husband Jack, Joyce Potter all of Brunswick and Bonni Reddick and husband Ivan of Savannah, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Dean McKenzie of Brunswick, and several nieces and nephews.
