Anna Catherine Doxey, a special angel sent down to earth, was born on July 2, 1999, and died peacefully in her sleep on June 1. She was the beloved daughter of Catherine Manning Doxey of St. Simons, William S. Doxey, III of Key Largo, FL, the precious sister to William S. Doxey, IV, of Atlanta, and Abigail Elise Doxey, of UGA in Athens and St. Simons, and the heart of her grandparents, Dr. Hubert and Gail Manning. In addition, Anna is survived by her Uncle Stephen Manning, Aunt Allison Manning, and her three cousins, Grace, Ava and Emma Manning of Newnan. For the past several years, Anna had truly become another daughter to Kenyotta Davis Jordan, who can be credited with her excellent health, cute clothes and always a hair bow and also became a best friend to Crystal Davis.
In her brief almost nineteen years, Anna never did anything worthy of note, except the most important thing, to love and be loved. She deeply affected all of the lives she touched. When she was born and doctors realized something was wrong, they said she probably would not make it through the day. Somehow, she managed to prove them wrong and much to the delight of family and friends, she grew into a beautiful young woman. Anna was a pure joy with a wicked sense of humor, a mind of her own, able to answer yes or no questions, and had her own opinion about most choices given to her sometimes exasperating those waiting on her to make up her mind. Considering she never was able to speak, she communicated very well. Anna traveled all over with her family on every vacation, loved all things Disney especially Prince Charming, and could use an IPad better than most adults. She could drive her power wheel chair well at an extremely early age but only if she wanted to, loved anything yellow, and was a shoe fanatic. This was pretty interesting considering she never walked but would always show you her shoes when she first saw you.
Anna lived in Statesboro after the family moved from Macon and then she moved to St. Simons in 2011. She attended Glynn Middle School where she was taught by phenomenal teachers, and then on to Brunswick High where she had just finished the 12th grade, again being taught by dedicated and amazing teachers. There is a special place in heaven for teachers of special needs students and Anna had some of the best. She loved school and it was a joy to see her excitement each day.
Graveside services will be held at Christ Church Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, with the Reverend Rebecca Rowell and Reverend Tom Purdy, Christ Church, Federica, and Associate Pastor Mark Fritchman, St. Simons Community Church, officiating. Family will receive guests thirty minutes prior to the service at the grave site.
