

Anna Barbara Tanner passed away peacefully at her home in Brunswick, Georgia, USA on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the age 87. Mrs. Tanner was born in Trier, Germany, on March 29, 1938, daughter of the late Hans I Schmitt and Helena Elizabeth Kolborn Schmitt. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Kenneth Donald Tanner of Brunswick, Georgia; and her sisters, Marlies and Evemi and brothers, Fritz and Achim.
Mrs. Tanner is survived by her loving two daughters, Patricia Sylvia Becerra (Gil Becerra) of Rowlett, Texas and Helen Ruth Tanner of Brunswick, Georgia; one Granddaughter, Michelle Tanner Becerra of Rowlett, Texas.
Additionally, she leaves behind two sisters Hannelore and Liesel of Germany and numerous nieces and nephews. She cherished her family deeply.
Mrs. Tanner is fondly remembered as a sweet and loving lady who was willing to make a meal or bake a cake for any occasion. She had a deep affection for dogs, giving many a loving home. She found great joy with her family, including playing with her dog, Pumba. She will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Tanner became an USA citizen on March 3, 1968. She was member of the Glyndale Baptist Church and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Neptune Chapter #153, serving as Worthy Matron. She supported her husband’s career in the US Air Force, moving frequently to Germany and different US states. Mrs. Tanner was an accomplished seamstress who owned her own drapery business. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America. Her interests included sewing, cooking, baking, reading, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, playing with her dogs, and spending time with her family.
A private family viewing will be held on June 13, 2025, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, in Brunswick, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Rd., Canton, Georgia. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School class of Glyndale Baptist Church.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Mrs. Tanner’s name to American Cancer Society, http://cancer.org/dignitymemorial
