Barbara Ellen Burton-Hanzalik, 49, of St. Simons Island, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11Am Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church St. Simons Island with Reverends Dr. Tony Langford and Dr. Truitt Gannon. Deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born January 6, 1969 in Atlanta, Georgia to Richard L. and Sally L. Burton, she graduated from Tucker High School in 1987. Barbara received a Bachelors Degree from Georgia Southern University, where she was a charter member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. While living in Nashville Tennessee, she was a member of the Forrest Hills Baptist Church. . She was also a Past Matron of Rock City #2, Order of the Eastern Star.
For the past 7 years, she has been a resident of St. Simons Island and a member of First Baptist Church of St. Simons. She served as a Deacon and was the publicist for the church. She enjoyed arts and crafts, as well as shopping, interior design, and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Steven Hanzalik, their two children, Sally Ann and Wesley. Her parents, Richard L. and Sally L. Burton of St. Simons Island, her brother David Burton of Flowery Branch, GA, fathers and mothers in-law James and Deborah Shannon of Bloomfield, NY, and Albert and Barbara Hanzlik of Canastota, NY, and many loving relatives.
There will be a reception and the family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 27, 2018 from 6PM until 8 PM at First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island. Memorials may be made to the Preschool Program of First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
