Betty Helms Smith

Betty Helms Smith, 89, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles. She was born in Orlando, Florida, on February 19, 1927 to the late Mr. John Helms and the late Mrs. Marie Helms. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville, FL, where she volunteered and made bulletins for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress; she enjoyed making all of her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes. Mrs. Smith loved having her grandchildren for long visits each summer.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Donald Edward Smith, SR and her son Donald Edward Smith, JR.

Survivors include her Daughter Donna Tollison Rountree and husband George of St. Simons Island, GA; her three grandsons Trip Tollison and wife Tracey of Savannah, GA, Doug Smith and Keith Smith both of Jacksonville, FL; her three granddaughters Leigh Veal and husband Zack of St. Simons Island, GA, Maggie Rhodes and husband Gray and Jessica Bunn both of Darien, GA; her longtime Companion Ed Goossen; and her great grandchildren Thomas Veal, Hank Tollison, Smith Veal, Trey Bunn, Ella Bunn, Lula Tollison, Eliza Veal and Charlie Rhodes.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Monday, November 21, 2016 from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, GA. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Jacksonville, FL.
