
Billie Ruth Cunningham Cofer died peacefully in her home, Sunday afternoon, Sunday, February 10, 2013. She had spent a happy morning with family attending Kirkin O’ the Tartan at the St. Simons Presbyterian Church where she was a charter member and had served as a deacon and as moderator for Presbyterian women. Billie was born in Cordele, Georgia November 14, 1926 to Willie Peyton and Thelma Mize Cunningham who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Newton Cofer, her son, Edwin Peyton Cofer, her sister, Ann Rudd and her niece, Laura Beal Tebbetts.
She is survived by one daughter, Candace Cofer Younce (Thomas), two grandchildren, Lynn Younce Rhymes (Tony), and Brian Younce (Laura) and four great grandchildren; Cody Rhymes; Bryce, Zachary and Parker Younce. She is also survived by nieces and nephews who loved her dearly; Michael Rudd (Linda), Patti Rudd Moyers (Nick), John Beal (Alicia), Anne Tebbetts (Bob) and Sarah Beal as well as great nieces and nephews and two special friends, Christy Crews and Debra Walker.
Billie moved to Glynn County in 1943 and graduated from Glynn Academy. She enjoyed golf, gardening and time spent with family and friends. Billie’s beauty, sense of style, generous heart, strong spirit and deep faith endeared her to family and friends.
The Reverend Dr. John Law will share with the family in a private graveside service at Christ Church Cemetery Thursday, February 14 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Simons Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick.
