

Carl was a life-long resident of Brunswick and a graduate of Glynn Academy. He attended technical school in Americus, Georgia where he studied radio and TV repair. He owned and operated Torkildsen’s TV for many years. Carl honorably served in the US Army during the Korean conflict where he earned a Bronze Star. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed tinkering with TV’s and radios and loved playing the steel guitar while listening to music.
His parents, F.H. and Sophie Torkildsen, a brother, F.H. Torkildsen, Jr. and two sisters, Pauline Smith and Dessa Bennett preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Howard Torkildsen of Brunswick; two daughters, Cynthia Torkildsen Funderburk and Helen Torkildsen Johnson; six grandchildren, Nicholas Cowman (Cindy), Andrew Cowman, Amanda Stepp (Cade), Elizabeth Robertson (Robbie), Hillary Herren (Timothy) and Jeremy Johnson; eleven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 21 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm at Palmetto Cemetery with Donald Pittman officiating. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons; Andrew Cowman, Nicholas Cowman, Hunter Cowman, Jake Cowman, Tyler Cowman, Cade Stepp and Carl Stepp.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Heartland Hospice, 664 Scranton Road, Ste. 103, Brunswick, GA 31520.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
