After more than 20 years bravely facing Parkinson’s Disease, David William Folts, 78, died at the Southeast Georgia Health System on December 25. David was born on September 7, 1944 to William and Leona Folts in Rochester, New York. He grew up in Burlington, Vermont and received degrees from the University of Notre Dame, Yale Law School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. His career can be divided into three sections: He was a professor of government at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, then an attorney with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLC in Philadelphia and finally an attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, DC before retiring to St. Simons Island, Georgia in 2006.
As a senior at Notre Dame, Dave met Mary Lou Goyette. They were married in 1968 and had 54 wonderful years together. They have one son, Christopher (Mindy) of Fairfax, VA and one beloved grandson, William.
Besides his devotion to family and work, David loved golf, being a member of the King and Prince Golf Club. There he became friends with many wonderful people who supported him as he faced the challenges of Parkinson’s Disease and its increasing effects on his health. For many years he was an active participant in the local yoga community. When he wasn’t driving his favorite toy, his red Jaguar convertible, he spent his leisure time listening to music.
Dave’s memory will be cherished by the many people he affected throughout his life, from previous students through clients to friends on the golf course on his beloved St. Simons Island. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday, December 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Edo Miller Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, GA 31520. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Covenant House (covenanthouse.org) or another charity of their choosing. www.edomillerandsons.com
