I cannot say enough good things about Don. From the time I first met him as a fellow worker and, later, as his group leader; Don was always a friendly face. Of course, there were some that got on his nerves, but he wouldn't show it. He was kind to everyone. I'm sure he had no enemies. He had the old world work ethic and out performed most others. He was extremely knowledgeable of his job and was often the one that could do the impossible. He took pride in his work and his family. He always talked of Vicky an the kids. It was obvious that he loved them greatly. Don was a valuable employee and friend and is greatly missed. I wish I could have seen him retire to the Smoky Mountains. That was his dream. God bless and comfort Vicky, his kids and the rest of his family.

Don C Bunkley,  I may not have known you for a long time but it felt like we knew each other for years. You where and are a great man with never anything to say bad about anyone, would give the shirt off your back and help anyone in need. I will miss you knowledge, integrity and most importantly your friendship. Every time I go to the mountains I will think of you and how you loved being with your beautiful family there in the snow. The family I am sorry for your loss and he I cant remember a day that he wasn't saying great things about his family and loved ones.  My prayers and love to you. 

I had the privilege of getting to know, and working beside Don C Bunkley for the last four years. I can't believe he is gone. But what a wonderful memory of a person with whom I have shared many conversations with. I have talked to him about simple things in life, all the way down to some very complicated and deep topics. I always appreciated his very different outlook on things. Some of those conversations included his family. He loved and still loves his wife, son, daughter, and his dog cuz so very much. He always wanted the best for his family and he did everything he could to provide that. I will never forget him. He is a man who has changed and affected my life in such a positive way. God Bless you for the honorable life you lived Bunk. Until we meet again, enjoy your view down upon us here on Earth.

Don "C", this world won't be the same without you. I've known Bunk since 1987, but I haven't seen him since I retired in 2014. I sure wish I had. Bunk was everyone's friend and one of the best workers that I've ever known. If we had a difficult problem to solve, he was one that I would consult. He had a vast knowledge of his job and trained many a "newbie". He was always upbeat and dependable through and through. 
Bunk will be very much missed by all.

Quint, it was with shock and such sadness to hear about Don. You guys were such wonderful neighbors during the short time we lived close by.  You and all the family are in my thoughts and prayers.


It has taken me almost a week to put my thoughts into words. We grew up in Woodbine and attended the local elementary school together. Through the years, we managed to stay in touch every now and then. 

Mom, Dad, and I had to travel to Tennessee to get to meet your wonderful family. It was the highlight of our trip! Your wife, Vickie, was the sweetest person. You were certainly lucky to find such a gem! I could see Mrs. Norma’s beauty in Leann and your calmness in Clayton Lee.

For some reason, God needed a strong, courageous, and faithful angel in Heaven. You met all of those requirements while here on Earth, and I’m sure you’ve already advanced to supervisor of a department up there!

Thank you for being one of the best friends I’ve ever had for the past 50 years. To your entire family…Strength, Courage, Faith, and Hope every day. Rest In Peace Don Bunkley.


It took me some time to process this could happen to Don; he was such a good person and this is heart breaking. We are cousins and Don and Quint let me tag along as we grew up, me being three years younger than Don. We would go camping, caught catfish by the hundreds by dragging an old tire in the railroad ditch and there was an alligator involved in one of our adventures. We shot my mama's clothes  line into with a .22 rifle, think Quint was the trigger man. Don put me on his shoulders to make quick repair on the clothes line, as we were not allowed to have the gun out when adults weren't home. It's crazy the things you remember, like the time we won first place in the watermelon and pie eating contest at a festival in Woodbine. We left the event as champions, bellies full on watermelon and pie, sporting our blue ribbons. Then Don and Quint were old enough to buy cars and lived on Jekyll, even though I was younger, they would come to Waverly and get me from time to time and include me in their exploits .  Don will always be part of some of my favorite childhood memories. I am thankful he was kind enough and took the time to let his younger "CUZ" tag along. Oh Yea he even let me drive his Trans Am Once !

when i heard of dons passing  i had to stop for a few minutes.  my eyes swelled with tears . have  not  seen don  in a while but memories all came back to me from jekyll isl where we all grew up.....  don , me, quint, alan hamilton, dennis beasley,   and many others.....ive lost alot of friends during lifes  path........its painful.....but we all will fade one day from this life.  the  legacy we leave with others is whats left. i pray for dons family......may they find peace....dons resting now....may the lord hold him and keep him.......he will be missed but always remembered....           

My deepest condolences on Bunk passing. He will be missed. He was always helpful when called upon. His favorite expression was "alright" when I see him in the Building.

I have had the pleasure of know Don Bunkley for over 34 years now and He has always been there for anyone that asks for him. Myself and the rest of the Lockheed family will miss you dearly. Rest easy Brother.

Our love, prayers and deepest sympathies are with y’all.   We had the pleasure of growing up with Don & Quint on Jekyll Island and sharing many fun and fond memories that we’ll forever treasure.    Don will be dearly missed and always remembered.   He made the world a better place.  

It's always so hard to hear the loss of any family members and friends. Especially when the friend is a person like Bunk. He was a friend to everyone. With his vast experience, he was always more than happy to share his knowledge with old and new employees. His work ethic was among the best. I have seen a lot of great employees that work for Lockheed Martin through the years and Bunk was definitely at the very top of the list. Always kind and very helpful!! 
You will definitely be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have known you!!

Brother in Love....oh how we are going to miss you!  You were definitely one of a kind.  You always were so thoughtful of your family and others.  You never had a bad thing to say about anyone.  I remember the first time that I met you and your family, how you welcomed me in.  From there it was as if we had known each other for years.   You always called me Sister-in-law no matter where or what we were doing .  You were one of the BEST grill cooks that I know of.  I am going miss the London Broil!!!   I know that you are watching over Vick, Leann and Clayton Lee, and matter of fact,  all of us cause that was how you were.   Until we meet again...love and miss you!!!  Pattie

Don C, you have been my best friend and brother for almost 15 years, our hearts are heavy and you will be sorely missed. You have taught me so much over the years and I am going to miss talking to you and sharing the pictures of my OTR travels you always wanted me to send. You were loved by many and will truly be missed.  I am so glad I was able to go see you at the MABs on my last day of work and share a few good memories with you.  They will forever be in my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. When my dad told me today, I felt incredibly sad. Then I started remembering the good times we shared growing up on Jekyll. And that took some of the sadness away. I even laughed a few times. Thank God memories can do that for us. I've often told my sons that if there's one day I wish I had a camera on my forehead, it would've been the day Don and I took 2 of my dad's sea fishing reels and pulled a live alligator out of the golf course pond at the feet of Chris H who refused to believe we were pulling it onshore until it chased him. From the early days when Quint and I were classmates, Don, I considered you and Quint my best friends growing up. I remember your mom calling someone to come kill the copperhead I nearly stepped on with bare feet when the 3 of us were playing war at about 8 years old. I'll never forget me and Randy riding home in your Firebird Formula 350 and you wanted to see how fast it would go. I saw 135. Yeah, we did some crazy things. But we were young and we were enjoying life. At age 15 Quint and I bussed tables, then you and I worked maintenance for 3 years. During summer we worked double shifts. I saw you more than my parents. We got bored and took Jimmy's LUV truck and a fire extinguisher out one night. I drove and you blasted that yellow powder straight up from the truck bed and that big smile was on your face several minutes. You on your KZ-750, Corey on his bike, me & Quint trying to keep up on our mopeds cruising the island. I liked your silver TransAm so much I got a gold one. And you never gave me any grief for copying you. We even lined them up on the causeway to see if the 1977 or 1978 was faster. I still think I got you by a few feet, haha. We had so many good times. I'm just sorry that once I left the area I didn't come back more and keep our friendship alive and growing. But I'll always have the memories. Thanks Don for being such a good and loyal friend. I'll miss you amigo.

Don has been my best friend for almost 50 years.  I thank the Lord for blessing me with such an awesome person as my friend.  We talked everyday about everything from family to what we were going to cook that day.  My heart is truly broken and I will miss you dearly brother.  My deepest condolences goes out to his family.

Don Bunkley was a super guy. I don't know anyone that beat him at arm wrestling since 1987; back in the day we called him Go-rila. Bunk made the best chicken wings. For 34 years, Bunk was a really good guy to work with. You could always count on Bunk to have your back. He was extremely knowledgeable and kept a lot of us out of trouble. Be well Bunk.

"Bunk" was the epitome of professionalism.  He was the "man" in the MAB's, and as many others have already shared, he had a bunch of Bunkism's.  I left for another job and was crushed to hear the sad news.  I only knew him for 5 years but we spent a lot of time discussing his family, his daughter's college aspirations, his love of time with his family, his dog and their frequent trips to Tennessee which is an interest we shared.  I will miss our conversations about the future and our retirement plans which are very bittersweet to look back on now.  He wouldn't say an ill word about anyone even if they probably deserved it.  He seemed to see the best in everyone.  "Bunk", save some Jack and a Natty light for me, till we meet again Brother!

Don C. Bunkley (Bunk) was a GREAT man, period!  His primary focus was family and talked of his wife and kids often.  That always put a smile on his face that was infectious.  He just had a way of lighting up a room with a phrase or "Bunk"ism.  He always took the time to put others first and help wherever or whenever he could.  He cared not about praise, but rather helping others be successful.  He exuded positivity and has touched so many people with how he lived life.  He will be greatly missed, but he will not be forgotten.  His LEGEND will continue to grow!  Until we meet again, brother, Rest In Peace!  "To the house, Cuz!"

What up, cuz.  Bunk created not only impressions but left a legacy behind.  We will forever remember his quips and catch phrases.  Most notable, though, was his kindness and generosity.  The man never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything.  He was a Lead-By-Example kind of man.  He loved his family, he cared for his friends, and he looked out for everyone around him. He was a smart, dedicated, and hardworking guy who always wanted the team to succeed; never out for his own praise.  He knew his priorities and lived his life to the fullest.  What a role model, what a mentor, what a friend.  He will be missed truly and deeply.  Let's go to the house, cuz.

To the family, I grow up on jekyll island with don and we played together as kids. I will never forget him. He was a good man. Always kind  and good hearted. God bless his family.

I will always remember your love for the mountains and how much joy it brought you to talk of the time you got to spend there with your family each year.   You always had a kind word to say and you put others above yourself in every situation.  We are going to miss you brother!!

He loved them and you could see this was the motivation of his work ethic. His legacy and impact on the people that he trained cannot be understated. Don C. Bunkley, "Bunk" as he preferred, was a tower of greatness in the MABs. He trained just about every mechanic in our buildings since we were, “little greenhorns.” Bunk not only had the knowledge and experience to combat any problem that may arise, but he had a unique way of lifting up the spirits in a room. It takes a special kind of person to be able to make someone smile on the roughest of days. He did not have a negative thing to say about anyone and would not hurt a sole.... except for maybe a mosquito or two flying around "Cuz." There are several good men in this world, however, few are GREAT. Bunk was a GREAT man, humble, and kind to all. It kills me how much he talked about retiring and moving to the mountains. Hopefully he can Rest In Peace in his favorite place.  

Miss you Bunk! Thank you for all you have done for us! Your, smile, sayings, and legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege of knowing you.  


Don C, The coolest guy I have ever had the pleasure to meet! He had a warmth around him that everyone loved.. His personality and outlook were so unique and positive that it was contagious. I don't think it was possible to be near him for more than 5 minutes and not smile or laugh. I know the most important thing in the world to him was his family and spending precious time with them.. you could hear the love and passion for them with every word he spoke.  Thank you for all the great laughs and wonderful days with you, It was an honor. 

Don was fond of referring to folks as "Brother Man".  This was fitting as he treated everyone he ever met as family. 

Don C Bunkley was a man of many sayings like "eat mo chicken" "lets go to the house" "let me buy you a cup of coffee" "lord help me make it to Christmas"  "what we gonna duz cuz" and "leann, clayton lee daddy loves you" boy how this place wont be the same without hearing those said around the Backshop.  until we meet again bunk. Work wont be the same with out you cuz!!!! 

My grief is beyond words to not have 'Bunk' on this earth anymore, but I am so grateful that Bunk is in his new home, one better than words can describe. I have not known Bunk very long (~3 years), but his impact on me will last a lifetime. One thing that I will always remember is Bunk's kindness, and his ability to make you smile. A bad day could easily be turned around when Bunk would walk down a hallway and yell "Eat 'mo Chicken!" Simple things such as that last a lifetime. I am thankful I got to know Bunk, and that I can cherish memories made working with him.  Call it cliché, but in my opinion, every city, every worksite, every family needs a man like Bunk. You will truly be missed.

Don "Bunk" Bunkley was a good man and a talented mechanic. I respected his work ethic and knowledge so much, but what really made Bunk stand out was his welcoming and easy going attitude. I'll always remember Bunk walking out of the building at the end of every shift enthusiastically declaring "Let's go to the house cuz!".  My prayer for Bunk is that he is enjoying his final rest at the "house" above and that his family and closest friends can be comforted.

I was shocked to hear about Don. I am so sorry for your loss and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I will always remember us all growing up on Jekyll.  What a special place we were privileged to live and made so many friends.  Even though we have not seen each other often, you have always been family to us.
