

Douglas Sawyer, 76, of Darien, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at SGHS in Brunswick. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, November 21, 2014 at Darien United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Huling and Rev. Franklin Pierce officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be The Darien Telephone Company Family, and members of The B&J coffee table group. Born February 15, 1938 to the late Forrest M. and Millicent M. Sawyer, he was retired from Darien Telephone Company after 36 years of service. Mr. Sawyer was also a US Army Veteran, and member of Darien United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, and especially spending time with the light of his life, his granddaughter Chloe. He also enjoyed restoring his 1957 Chevy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Reginald, and Rodney Sawyer, and a sister Phyllis Evans.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Lisa D. Sawyer, two sons, Will Woodcock (Kelly), and Chase Rozier (Miranda), all of Darien, a special daughter Tara Chavous of Brunswick, two grandchildren, Chloe Woodcock and Kirsten Roberts, two brothers, John Sawyer (Mary) of Darien, Stanford “Poochie” Sawyer of Manteo, NC, a sister Pat Todd of Valona, several nieces and nephews, and close friends Tom Smith (Lisa), and David Stephens (Jennifer) and their families, and his faithful canine companions Ellie and Cami. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or McIntosh HART. The family will receive friends at Darien United Methodist Church, Friday morning, November 21, 2014 from 10 until the funeral hour.
