He attended the University of Wisconsin and then later earned his Master’s degree in Psychology from Georgia State University. He worked with E.P. Dutton Publishing Company early in his career which influenced his passion for the written word until the time of his death. As the result of his own recovery from alcoholism for greater than 30 years, Doug worked in the field of addiction, teaching and counseling. His prolonged struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis forced his retirement in 2006 from Focus Healthcare of Georgia.
His family is appreciative of all the loving care from Kyra Mauney as well as all of Doug’s caregivers during his illness.
Doug will be remembered as a kind and gentle man, known for his humor about life and love of all animals. He loved reading, playing golf, fishing, and gardening.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11am at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Father Jim Holloway officiating.
