Downing Sands Middleton

Sands was born December 3, 1951 to Sammy Middleton and Elsie Herrin Middleton in Brunswick. He attended Glynn Academy High school before entering into the United States Army, where he served as a former E-5 Sgt. He also attended Brunswick Jr. College and was a general manger of Morrison’s Cafeteria for 20 years. He was an accomplished athlete and was a nature enthusiast, hiking the Appalachian Trail in its entirety. He also loved music, animals, and cooking

Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his aunt: Pollyanne Herrin.

He is survived by his wife: Christine Middleton of Hortense; six children: Kimberly K. Sallions of Brunswick, Christian Middleton of Brunswick, Trevor Middleton of Savannah, Jessie Martin of Brunswick, Ashley Middleton Byrd of Waynesville, and Brooke Middleton of Hortense; his mother: Elsie Middleton of St. Simons Island, a son-in-law: Joshua Byrd of Waynesville; six grandchildren: Aniston Middleton, Gavin Byrd, Samantha Byrd, Maggie Middleton, Erin Sallions and Michelle Sallions and many other friends and relatives.
