Edna Lee Behrens

Edna Lee Behrens of St. Simons Island, Georgia, 87, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 after a short illness. Preceding her in death is her beloved husband of 56 years Kenneth L. Behrens and her son, David T Ward (51). She was the daughter of the late Robert and Wadie Lee Mitchell of St. Simons Island, Georgia.

She is survived by daughters, Sherry Ward Montgomery (Earl Montgomery), Kathleen Behrens Brown (Steve Brown), Deanna Behrens Albertson, and Phyllis Behrens Hoffman (Steve Hoffman). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. All who dearly loved their “GG” Grandma “B”.

Edna, a lifelong islander, cared about this island and love raising her family here. She enjoyed working in the Arts and Crafts (Old Ben Franklin Store) for many years. She and Dad traveled extensively in their lifetime. They also were very proud of being able to say they visited every state in the United States. Everyone that met her called her a Friend, they also trusted her advice. Since no one could do a “one-liner” joke better than Edna, everyone found much comfort and laughter around her.

Our gratitude to the members of her exercise group. You ladies brought her so much joy in the later years of her life. Her family would like to also acknowledge the Staff and Residents of Magnolia Manor Assisted Living SSI for the excellent care and kindness you all extended to her in the last six months of her life. She will be missed by so many, yet we will take comfort in knowing her loving legacy will live on helping to create a better future for all. “Proverbs 31:10-31”

The family will receive friends at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home between 6- 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2022. The funeral service to honor Edna’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2022 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The burial will follow the service in Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Patterson, Georgia.
