

A native of Grafton, West Virginia, he was born to Ernest and Dorothy Riddle on January 2, 1936. Ernest went on to graduate from Northwestern High School and attended Freedom University. After college, he worked as a police officer for the United States Capitol Police for over 20 years. He taught at Southern Maryland Christian Academy and was a Marshall for the Justice Department
Ernest found his passion in coaching and dedicated more than fifty years of his life to working with students in baseball, football, basketball, touching the lives of boys and girls from the little leagues on up to high school. Not only was Ernest a devoted coach, he was a mentor who strove to inspire and support those he had the privilege of coaching. He was a member of American Legion, having served in the United States Army.
Ernest was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Virginia Riddle; his father, Ernest Martin Riddle, Sr.; a sister, Meredith Joy Benfield; and a grandson, Andrew Kelly Riddle.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Rita” Riddle; and two children, Dale Martin Riddle and Tracie Alice Riddle of Brunswick, Georgia. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Glyndale Baptist Church with a celebration of life immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
