

Fay Dozier Durden, age 73, of Brunswick, died Saturday, January 18, 2014. Fay was a graduate of Mt. de Sales Academy in Macon, and graduated from Macon Business College in 1959. That same year, she moved to Brunswick and began working for Judge Ivan Nathan. Later she worked as office manager for RE Thomas Erectors and Dr. Wade Swann. Fay was one of the first Candy Stripers at the Brunswick Memorial Hospital in the 1960’s, and she was the former owner of Floral Fantasy on St. Simons Island. In 1980, Fay began working for the Glynn County Judicial System where she worked for both the Magistrate and Superior Courts. She and her husband, Jimmy, were active in many local and civic organizations including the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, the Exchange Club, Shrine Club and were long time members of the Brunswick Country Club where her outgoing and loving personality garnered many loyal, long-time friends. She was also an active member of Christ Church, Frederica. Fay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carswell “Jimmy” Durden; her parents, Tony and Helen Dozier, and a brother, Jimmy Dozier.
She is survived by two sons, Carswell Durden of Brunswick and John Durden (Teresa) of Hinesville; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Durden of Brunswick; four grandchildren, John C., Rebecca, Dillon and Chandler Durden, all of Brunswick; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Usher of Brunswick; a brother, Bud Dozier (Galina) of Ellenburg Depot, NY; a sister, Marie Dozier of Macon; an Aunt, Jeanie Estes of Orlando, FL; and a nephew, Lee Dozier (Lyuba).
The family would like to thank Dr. Moran and his staff, Heartland Hospice, and all of Fay's caregivers for their devotion during her courageous battle.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Christ Church, Frederica with The Reverend Tom Purdy, The Reverend Deacon Rebecca Rowell and the The Reverend Dee Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Glynn County School District Police and employees of Glynn County Superior Court.
