

Frances Bruce Flexer of St. Simons Island, Georgia died Friday, May 10, at Vitality Living Frederica. A private family interment will be held at the Flexer plot at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Georgia on Wednesday, May 15 at 9:30 AM. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church St. Simons Island for all with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Visitation and a reception will follow in the church social hall.
Born on November 23, 1930 in Homerville, Georgia to the late James Barton Bruce and Ranna Mae Ramsey Bruce, Frances was the second of six children. They were Henrietta Bruce Segal, Martha Ann Bruce White, James Barton Bruce Jr., Clayton Ramsey Bruce and Thelma Catherine Bruce. She grew up in Homerville and graduated Valedictorian from Homerville High School in 1947. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1952. She taught school in Thomson, Hawkinsville and Brunswick before settling on St. Simons where she taught for ten years. She earned her Masters degree in Education from Georgia Southern University. She was the Paraprofessional Coordinator for Glynn County schools for six years and then became the Instructional Specialist for Glynn County Elementary Schools for ten years. Her last year as an educator was spent as the principal at St. Simons Elementary school.
Frances was a member of First Baptist Church St. Simons Island for 70 years. In that time she taught Sunday School, was a department head, led several committees and had her own ministry visiting shut ins. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and attended her beloved church every time the doors were open. She and Julian enjoyed traveling and social events. She loved to entertain and was an amazing cook. She was a past member of the Escorts Club and Cotillion.
Frances married the love of her life, Julian Flexer in 1954 and they lived on St. Simons Island for 60 years until his death in 2014. She is survived by her daughter, Fran Flexer Moore (Leslie); her son, Bruce Flexer (Terri); her grandchildren, Andrew Moore (Shirley), Scott Moore (Callen), Lindsey Flexer Christian (Frank), Jay Flexer (Caroline); her great grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Austin Moore, Bailey Moore, Madison Moore, Cooper Moore, Ella Moore, Hudson Christian, Lennon Christian, Barron Christian, Tripp Flexer, and Wade Flexer; her sister, Thelma Bruce; her sisters-in-law Alta Bruce, Elouise McDonald, Connie Flexer.
Fran and Bruce would like to thank Laura Moore for her many years of love, care and devotion for our mother. Many special thanks to the wonderful team of caregivers in memory care at Vitality Living who loved on our mother, treated her with respect and took care of her needs on a daily basis for the last several years.
