Ila Mae Abbott Horton

Ila Mae Abbott Horton, 86 passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, at her residence in Glynn County, Georgia. A public visitation will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., in the Brunswick Room of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The services for Ms. Horton will be held Monday, June 24, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., at the Community Lighthouse Baptist Church of Brunswick with the Reverend Charles Smith officiating. Ms. Horton’s interment will follow the service in the Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ms. Horton was born in Brunswick on June 4, 1927, to John Henry McDowell and Florence Highsmith McDowell and has been a resident of Brunswick for most her life. Ms. Horton enjoyed her life as a self-employed caregiver in the health industry and as a member of The Beverly Shores Baptist Church, Red Hatters and Elks Club. She also enjoyed an interest in line dancing.

Ms. Horton will be missed by many family members and friends, including her surviving children Norman H. Williams (Renee) of Yulee, FL, Rhonda Harper (Gary) of Brunswick, GA, Bobbie Jo Long of Brunswick, GA, Jan Abbott Hollar of Brunswick, GA and Jon Abbott (Sue) of Brunswick, GA. Ms. Horton also leaves behind twelve grandchildren Vance, Cherie, Dana, Rebecca, Richard, April, Jessica, Brandi, Trey, Rachael, J.B. and Jennifer; numerous great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Horton was preceded in death by her son Burton Williams, her parents John and Florence McDowell, and her brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Heartland Hospice of Brunswick, GA.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home will be handling Ms. Horton’s funeral arrangements.
