
Jacquelin Beale Kite, 85, of St. Simons Island, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2010. A native of Orange, VA, Mr. Kite was a resident of Roanoke, VA, for a number of years, where he was Vice President at Sam Finley Inc. He had been a Glynn County resident for the past 40 years.
He was the son of the late William Harrison and Rosa Graves Kite of Orange, VA.
He graduated from Woodberry Forest in 1942 served as a 2nd Lt in the Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. Mr. Kite received his BSME from UVA in 1949, where he was inducted to Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. At UVA he was a pitcher on the college baseball team and a member of Zeta Psi, where he served as Chapter Phi during his senior year.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William Harrison Kite Jr, and by his wives, Lenora Rodes Kite, in 1951, and Ann Stultz Kite, in 2009.
Active in his community for years, Mr. Kite coached Little League in Roanoke, and was a member of the Men of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church there. In Glynn County, he was a member of the Brunswick Rotary Club, active in leadership at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick and served as an Elder for St Simons Presbyterian Church. He volunteered at Habitat For Humanity, was the St. Simons Island Representative for the Glynn County Planning Commission, and headed the East Beach Homeowners’ Association. Mr. Kite was a long time member of the St. Simons & Sea Island Literary Society & Inside Draw Club. He retired as President of Seaboard Construction Company, Brunswick, GA, in 1984.
He is survived by his daughters, Craig Kite Morgan and her husband, Tommie, of Houston, TX, and Lee Kite and her husband Russell Davis, of Menlo Park, CA; three grandchildren, Ann-Michael Brickey of Houston and Rob & Will Davis, both of Menlo Park, and his popular dog, Savannah, of St. Simons Island and soon to be of Menlo Park, CA. He also is survived by a wonderful legacy of friends across the world.
A celebration of his life will be held in the summer.
