

He is survived by his wife Joan; brother Ken of Douglasville, Georgia; sister Susan (Don) Richardson of Powder Springs, Georgia; step-daughter Maria (Tim) Early of Rock Hill, South Carolina; step-sons Tom (Stacy) Swinson of Amelia Island, Florida and Shawn Swinson (Angela) of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Jim also has one niece, Elizabeth Davis of Douglasville and nephew, Davis Richardson of Powder Springs. There are numerous other step-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1967 and completed his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering Technology degree from Southern Technical Institute in 1973. He was employed by John Portman Associates and was a partner at Williamson & Associates in Atlanta until he retired in 2000 to St. Simons Island.
Jim was a licensed architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He held numerous leadership positions within various professional organizations, including being named a Fellow in the Construction Specifications Institute. He was President of the Atlanta Chapter of CSI and remained involved with the local chapter in Glynn County. Jim also served on numerous homeowners associations, including President of the Island Club on Sea Island and was on the Island Club Board of Directors. He also volunteered with the Optimist Club, AIA local chapter and assisted with the PGA Tournaments held on Sea Island.
Jim and Joan attended the St. Simons Community Church.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
