Jim lived a long and purposeful life defined by service, devotion, and deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy “Dotsy” Fuller, his devoted partner through a lifetime of shared memories and faith.
Born April 14, 1936 to James William Fuller, Sr. and Mary Ferguson Fuller, Jim was raised in Winnsboro, SC on the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion—principles that guided him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Ferguson “Bobby” Fuller, his brother-in-law, Donald Price, and his cherished daughter, Nancy Fuller Kennedy.
A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Jim also served as editor of the university yearbook, showcasing his leadership and attention to detail. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of Major. After his military career he dedicated more than 33 years to Southern Bell and AT&T, where he was admired for his professionalism, work ethic, and steadfast character.
His faith was central to his life. As a Christ follower and active member of the United Methodist Church and the Emmaus Community, Jim lived out the values of service, fellowship, and compassion that shaped his daily walk. He and Dotsy particularly loved their time at St Simons UMC where Jim served in many roles including that of Church Administrator and representative to the South GA Conference.
“Daddy Jim” to his family, he is survived by his children: James William “Bill” Fuller III (Leah), Robert Gunnells “Bob” Fuller (Kim), and Margaret Fuller Rogers (Marty).
He was a proud grandfather to James William “Will” Fuller IV (Paige), John Cannon Fuller (Tenneal), Mary Margaret Curtis (Ben), Robert Gunnells “Buck” Fuller, Jr. (Kortney), Anne Marie Smith (Landon), Sarah Grace Rogers, Anna Rogers Rollman (Xavier), and Katherine Kennedy.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy: Beau Allen Fuller, Mary Powell Curtis, Bennett “Rhett” Curtis, Jr., Annie May Fuller, Margaret Joy Smith, and Dorothy Ann Smith.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Simons United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, with interment to follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Cemetery, St. Simons.
