

Mrs. Whorton was born June 30, 1939 in Brunswick, Georgia the daughter of the late Francis Merle Bowen and the late Mave Oree Bowen. She was a graduate of the Glynn Academy Class of 1957. She received her Bachelors of Education degree from Valdosta State College. She later continued her education and received her Juris Doctorate degree from John Marshall School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Whorton lived most of her adult life in Glynn County and enjoyed the life style on Saint Simons Island. She retired as a Public Defender with Glynn County. She was also a member of the Georgia State Bar Association.
Mrs. Whorton was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Merle and Mave Oree Bowen. She is survived by her son, Ryan Taylor Whorton of Cumming, GA; a daughter, Shannon Kathleen Whorton of Franklin, NC; her wonderful grandchildren Farrah Whorton, Sterling Wood, Nathan Hession, Madalyn Hession, and Sean Whorton. Two precious great grandchildren and her sister Jeannie Drawdy of Saint Simons Island, GA also survive.
Mrs. Whorton loved to spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and took pleasure in the beauty of the flowers in her yard. She also enjoyed crocheting. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends during the hour of 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2017 in the McIntosh Room of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service to honor Janice Irene Whorton’s life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2017 held in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Crandall officiating the service.
