He was born on September 16, 1977, to Brenda and Warren McDowell in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Fat Cat was known and will be remembered for establishing Bigtime Ink, the oldest tattoo studio in Brunswick, and the 30+ years he spent serving the community as a tattoo artist. He leaves behind a tangible legacy of love, compassion, hard work, and dedication that will never be forgotten.
He discovered his love and passion for art early in life while working for Harris Teeter. With an artistic spirit and entrepreneurial mindset, he went to work honing his craft and building his reputation. Fat Cat opened his studio under the name Street Life Tattoos in 2005, but his hard work lives on today in Bigtime Ink.
Outside of his work as a tattoo artist, Fat Cat is remembered for the loving adoration he had for his family and community. When he was not in the tattoo chair or working from beside one, he could always be found with his family. His family was, above all else, his true love.
He had a compassionate and caring heart, even donating turkeys on Thanksgiving and donating canned goods to the homeless community of Brunswick. He truly was the type of man who would give you the shirt off of his back.
Fat Cat was endlessly proud of his children, who follow in his footsteps today, and of his wife, who stood by his side and helped him every step of the way as he worked to manage several businesses.
His children remember him by saying, “Our father was so hardworking. He spent all of his years taking care of our family. All of his time was dedicated to making sure his children, grandchildren, and his wife were safe and stable. Most importantly, he taught each of us how to be better people. He did it all – a father, step-father, a husband, a businessman, a tattoo artist, and most importantly, a hero. He’s the only man that could handle the pressures of life and still smile and love us all infinitely. And although his life in our world has ended, his beautiful soul is now shining so bright above us, and still his love keeps our family in bloom.”
He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Craft McDowell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary McDowell; his children, Catilyn McDowell, Seth McDowell (Delary Lopez), Gauge McDowell, Aaliyah Rodrigues, and Bentley Rodrigues; and his father, Warren McDowell (Jo McDowell).
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is honored to have assisted the McDowell family.
