John Franklin Buchanan

John Franklin Buchanan, 78, of St. Simons Island, departed this life, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at SGHS Glynn. Memorial services will be held at 11AM Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Simons Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Brearley officiating.

Born May 20, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Hubert and Lima W. Buchanan, he attended Auburn University and graduated from Emory University with a Master’s Degree. He was a former Director with SITA Corporation. Prior to beginning his professional career, he served in the Georgia National Guard. He had been a resident of Glynn County since 2001 and was a member and director of St. Simons Island Rotary Club and The AA Group. Mr. Buchanan enjoyed golfing, photography and was an avid Auburn fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother William Buchanan.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Leila Buchanan of St. Simons Island, a daughter, Carolyn Carroll and husband Robert of Panama City Beach, FL, 2 grandchildren, Ryan Carroll and wife Catherine Anne, and Reed Carroll, two nephews, Connor Roberts and John Thomas Brumby and a niece Leila Wise and husband Aaron.
