

John Henry Lane, 81, of Brunswick, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Sears Manor Nursing Home in Brunswick. Born November 18, 1932, in Wayne County, Mr. Lane lived in Brunswick with his wife of 63 years, Mary Swafford Lane. Mr. Lane was a hardworking logger. He started JHL Timber Company, JHL Welding and Repair and Southeast Logging Inc. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer and later as a first mate on tugboats in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Lane was also a longtime member and former deacon at Sterling Baptist Church in Brunswick.
Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan C. and Katherine Burney Lane, and 15 siblings. He leaves behind beloved memories to be cherished by his wife, Mary “Totsy” Lane; sisters: Bessie Adams, Vida Lane, and Dessie Rooks; brother, Arnold Lane (Gail); children: Jean Wood, John Lane (Donna), Tracy Chapman (Lee), and Paul Lane (Gina); grandchildren: Meredith Lewis (Jeremy), Johnny Lane (Sarah), Jeremy Chapman (Dory), Autumn Meschke (Paul), Angel Lane, Nathan Lane, and Jason Lane; great-grandchildren: Jillian, Jesse, and Jace Lane, Amber and Jeremy Lewis, and Hayden Chapman, all of Brunswick, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Henry Lane will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, February 26 at Sterling Baptist Church in Brunswick, with Pastor Rick Williams officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Brantley County. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the visitation for Mr. Lane at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday evening, February 25, 2014.
