

John Edward Williams, 76, of Saint Simons Island, GA, passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isles on Sept. 16, 2021. He is survived by and remembered with love by his wife of 56 years, Ellen; his sons Chris (Nicole) and Steve (Nicole); also his daughter Lindsey (Joey) Ries; and five grandchildren, Erin, Evan, Jake, Emily and Lukas; his three siblings Betty (Brent) Smith, Judy (Boyd) Ruth and Wayne (Cheryl).John is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Ellen Williams; and by his brother, Steve.
John grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where he met and married Ellen. After receiving his Bachelor of Architecture degree, he and Ellen moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where John completed a Master of Architecture and a Doctorate in Building Economics from the University of Michigan. He joined the faculty of the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1974, teaching computer-aided design until 1981. In 1983, he founded US COST, Inc, a construction management and software company. In spite of time required to build and run his business, he was always available for Scout camping trips with his sons and for traveling to gymnastics meets with his daughter.
Upon his retirement in 2012, he and Ellen moved permanently to Saint Simons Island where much of his time was spent on the greens and in the sand traps around the island.
