Joseph Riley "Sonny" Griffis

Joseph Riley “Sonny” Griffis, 72, of Brunswick, GA went to be with his Lord Tuesday September 14, 2010 peacefully at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday September 18, 2010 at the Golden Isles Church of God with Pastor Bobby Tatum and Pastor Todd Garner officiating. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keith Manning, Joey Griffis, Rusty Cramer, Morgan White, Jack Williams, and Steve Hutchinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sanctuary Sunday School Class and Ushers of Golden Isles Church of God.

Born July 27, 1938 in Daytona Beach, FL to the late Brady and Clara Mae Jordan Griffis, he was a co-owner of Atlantic-Neon Signs retiring in 2000. He was a former member of the Army National Guard and Reserve. Mr. Griffis had resided in Glynn County for the past 38 years. He was a member of Golden Isles Church of God where he served as an Usher, a member of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class, Monday Night Prayer Group and Golden Isles Church of God Primetimers. Mr. Griffis enjoyed spending time with his family, baseball, fishing, vacationing in the mountains and Nascar racing. He loved his Lord and Church and was very involved with his church family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Griffis, Carroll Griffis and Earl Griffis.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Griffis, a daughter, Dianne Cramer and husband Rusty, a son, Randy Griffis and wife Susan, grandchildren, Joey Griffis, Candi Prescott, Caitlin Prescott, Leslie Sarro, a great grandson, Jake Griffis all of Brunswick, two sisters Shirley Shearouse and husband Carson of Springfield, GA, Aloise Dowd and husband Glenn of Brooklet, GA, two brothers, Lamar Griffis and wife Dot of Pooler, GA, David Griffis of South Carolina, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm. until 8 pm. Friday September 17, 2010 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
