Karen Elizabeth Knapp, 51, of Brunswick, formerly of Orlando, FL, died January 2, 2011 in Brunswick, GA after a three year battle with liver disease. She was the daughter of Lt. Col, (retired) Robert E. Knapp and the late Marie “Nita” McGarry. Born in Salina, KS, she came with her parents to Glynn County in 1974 and graduated from Glynn Academy, class of 1977 and Georgia Institute of Technology, class of 1983.
She is survived by her father, Robert E. Knapp, sisters Leslie Parker and husband Ron, and Linda Potts and husband Mike, nieces, Susan Parker, Paige Parker and Jordan Potts, nephews, Steve Parker and wife Meredith, and Austin Potts, several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
She was a volunteer at the American Red Cross and the YMCA where she enjoyed working with young people as a mentor, coach and referee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to the American Red Cross, the YMCA or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family will hold a private service.
