

Kerry Prentice Kicklighter, 81, of Townsend, GA, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Memorial services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Bob Floyd and Greg Durrence officiating.
Born September 9, 1929 in Tattnall County Georgia to the late Harold Prentice and Mary Hamilton Kicklighter, he was a retired US Air Force Captain and a retired educator having taught in the Tatnall and Liberty County Public School Systems. Mr. Kicklighter was a pilot and while serving in Vietnam, he was a Forward Air Controller, searching for enemies and directing airstrikes upon them. He flew over 350 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Kicklighter was a member of the First Christian Church in Glennville and had been a resident of Townsend since 1976.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Nancy K. Kicklighter of Shellman Bluff, two daughters, Wyndy Kicklighter Mitcham and husband Doug of Springfield, MO, and Valerie Kicklighter Ellington and husband Chuck of Soperton, a son Brian Kicklighter and wife Jennifer of Jupiter, FL, a step daughter, Judith Harding, a sister Ann Fulghum of Savannah, and a brother, Ed Kicklighter of CA, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
