

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Thursday, August 10 at 10:30 AM at Atwood Family Cemetery in Valona.
Born August 29, 1937 in Cox, Georgia, to the late Lawrence Oran and Alma Corene Jacobs, he was a lifelong resident of McIntosh County. A lifetime fisherman, Captain Lawrence was owner and operator of Jacobs Seafood for 48 years.
He was a member of the Georgia Fisherman’s Association in the 70’s and 80’s and advocated for fishermen in Washington DC. He served on the board of directors for Southeastern Bank for a number of years. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Darien where he served as Senior Warden and on the vestry for many years. Captain Lawrence enjoyed an active life on the water, captaining a shrimp boat for decades. He had a lighthearted spirit and joking nature that would brighten everyone's day. Spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, brought him much joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gay Saunders Jacobs; three sons, Lawrence Anthony “Tony” Jacobs, Lawrence “Laddy” Jacobs, Jr., and Douglas Scott Jacobs; as well as brothers Leon Jacobs, Allison Jacobs, and sister Katie Rozier.
He is survived by a daughter, Meta (James) Willis of Valona; sisters Iona Shuman and Norma Owens of Darien; grandchildren Gina (Brady) White (North Pole, Alaska), Kate (Scott) Baker (Midway, Georgia), Marly and Sarah Jacobs (Jacksonville, Florida), and Brad Willis (Valona); and great grandchildren Alex Baker, Ava White, and Dahlia Jacobs.
