

Mr. Hopkins was a native of Providence, Rhode Island and lived in Brockton, Massachusetts most of his childhood years. He and his family have resided in Brunswick, Georgia for the forty-eight years. He was the son of the late George Edward and Anna Marie Hopkins. He was married for fifty nine years to his loving wife Helen Ruth Hopkins. He was a veteran of the United States Airforce and served his country with honor. Mr. Hopkins was a retired Claims Analyst with Allstate Insurance Company. After his retirement, he formed Hopkins and Associates General Contractors. He served as the owner and operator of this company for the past several years. He was also a member of Northside Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 10-11:00 AM. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Pine Ridge Baptist Church with Reverend Craig Hartzog and Reverend Michael Gibbs officiating. The interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers serving during the service will be Dr. Ahmed ElSharkawi, Greg Yancey, Morris Ray, Clarence Hilburn, Roy Rocha and John Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marin Neal, Bruce Garrett, Jennings Overstreet, Mike Purnell, Jim Tarvin, Ed Deal, Dr. Wade Strickland, Drummond Spence and John Sapp.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his mother and father, Anna Marie and George Edward Hopkins; one sister, Eleanor Grosso; a brother, Robert Hopkins. He is survived by his devoted wife Helen Ruth Hopkins of Brunswick, GA; a daughter, Wanda Hulett (John) of Macon, GA; one son, Leo “Bubba” P. Hopkins Jr. of Brunswick, GA; three granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Hulett of Macon, GA, Mercedes Hopkins of Jacksonville, FL.; two grandsons, James Hulett of Macon, GA and Leo “B.J.” P. Hopkins III of Brunswick, GA; two great- grandchildren, Marley Odum and Leo P. Hopkins IV; one sister, Carole Balent; three brothers, George Hopkins, Bill Hopkins, and Ken Hopkins and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hopkins had a great love for children and enjoyed working with the children’s ministry at Pine Ridge Baptist Church as well as Northside Baptist Church. His grandchildren and great- grandchildren were very precious to him. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf in his spare time. He also loved to spend time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. However, his family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
