Lillian Larson Mahlberg

Lillian Larson Mahlberg, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2014 at her home on St. Simons Island. She was surrounded by loving family. Lillian Annabryan Larson was born on July 27, 1918, in Chicago, IL, to Frida (Nyberg) Larson and Algot Larson. She worked briefly in the health care field before her marriage to Roy Mahlberg. After she married she devoted herself to being a fantastic homemaker, mother, volunteer and corporate wife.During her marriage, corporate duties took her and her family to various locations around the U.S., including Fairfield, CT, Niagara Falls, NY, Memphis, TN, Chicago, IL, and Wilmington, DE. The couple moved to St. Simons Island permanently in 1997. She was a member of St. Simons Presbyterian Church, and active in various aspects of the church. In addition she was an accomplished fiber artist belonging to the Fiber Arts Guild on St. Simons and crafting creative items with members of that organization. She loved hostessing and enjoyed the many people she constantly invited to her home. We will all miss her terribly even though we had her for 96 years. Lillian is survived by a brother Rev. Robert Larson of Batavia, IL, three daughters, Donna L. Crooker of Brunswick, Patricia J. Bertapelle (Richard) of Healdsburg, CA, and Karin Mahlberg Mills (Larry) of St. Simons Island; six grandchildren, Amanda Anne Crooker of Livonia, MI, Keith Donald Crooker of Minneapolis, MN, Adam Raye Bertapelle (Jenni) of Portland, OR, Ryan Joseph Bertapelle (Meghan) of San Jose, CA, Courtney Mills Hood (Ben), of McLean, VA, and Eric Kenneth Mills of Charleston, SC; and six great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Roy F. Mahlberg. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15, at 11:00am at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bob Brearley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial contributions to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525, or to the St. Simons Presbyterian Church, 205 Kings Way, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
