Linda F. Bryan, loving Wife, Momma, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Caregiver, 80, of Brunswick, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 23rd, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System after a brief hospitalization. While her family could not be by her side due to COVID restrictions, we are grateful to have exchanged loving goodbyes over the phone. She was surrounded by compassionate nurses and medical staff that prayed with her and comforted her in her final moments, which was a tremendous blessing. We also take comfort in knowing that Mrs. Bryan's husband saved her a place in line at the gates of Heaven, and they danced all the way in together.
She is preceded in death by her husband, soul mate, and high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Bryan. She is survived by two daughters and their families, Margee and Pete Miller, with granddaughter Hunter Miller of Hortense, Georgia, and Bilinda and Bruce Rountree of Hawthorne, Florida, with granddaughter and family, Sierra and David Hargraves with great-grandchildren, Kendall and Buck Hargraves, of Melrose, Florida. Mrs. Bryan is also survived by several relatives and her lifetime best friends, Joyce Hooker, Ruth Bryan, Sue Cain, Joann Westcott, and Mildred Rogers.
Linda graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Her first job was at W.T. Grant Co. as a cashier, where she met co-worker Margie Bryan. Margie was determined to play matchmaker and have her meet her son, Billy. Turns out, Billy also went to Robert E. Lee High School and had started saving her a place in the lunch line every day at school. It was a love story for the ages!
Linda began working at Southern Bell in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, and always shared her love of the "big city" experience as a secretary. She worked with the Fraud Investigations Department. Adventures and jobs took them to St. Simons Island, Georgia, in 1969. They lived on East Beach and enjoyed the coastal lifestyle for many years. While walking on the beach, Linda met Sue Cain. They became best friends and maintained their friendship with weekly conversations and lots of laughter for over 50 years.
Linda went to work at Coastal Bank of Georgia as an Executive Secretary. She left Coastal Bank in 1977 to repeat motherhood with her daughter, Margee, as her daughters were sixteen years apart. Linda devoted her life to her husband and children entirely. In 1982, she went to work at Georgia Pacific (formerly Brunswick Pulp and Paper) as the Administrative Assistant for the pulp mill. In 1985, Linda and Bill built their dream home on the river in Brunswick on Anguilla Drive, where they enjoyed many years together. She was a good-hearted woman, loving a good timin' man, who we all called S.O.B. "Sweet Ol' Bill," and their adventures continued!
Linda was known by many for being the Queen of her Tupperware, the best vacuum shopper, always there to listen and give her famous "Linda Kay" opinions. ("You don't have to say everything you think!" "Less is more!") She was a fantastic cook, and it just wasn't a get-together without eating her delicious potato salad in her big, yellow Pyrex bowl. She made sure we were never hungry and always had a biscuit or comfort food to make it better, whether we wanted it or not. Linda loved to dance with her husband in the kitchen and always wore her signature bright, red lipstick. (She was a firm believer that a little lipstick would make life better!)
She loved rocking around the Christmas tree and making rum balls and fruit cake for the holidays and making sugar cookies with her grandchildren. She loved the color blue and playing dolls and games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We are honored to report that her lifetime goal of caring for her family and remaining independent was fully realized. She took care of herself until her final days, evident by her last Publix Instacart order, where she had her favorite desserts home-delivered.
Due to the pandemic, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Still, we encourage you to celebrate Mrs. Linda Bryan's life and legacy each day by enjoying some of her favorite indulgences. Seeing you hugging your loved ones, eating a Three Musketeers Bar, and putting on a little red lipstick to make yourself feel better will surely put a dance in her step in Heaven. Linda will be laid to rest beside her husband at Blount’s Crossing Cemetery in Thalmann, Georgia. We ask that you donate to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Linda F. Bryan's memory in lieu of flowers.
