Manuela Canas Rocha, 95, of Brunswick, departed this life, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11AM Monday, March 5, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Tim McKeown and Father Wilford Logsdon officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery. Michael Benton, Joe Rocha, Todd Rocha, Garrett Moseley, Evan Rocha and Dalton Rocha will serve as pallbearers. Great grandchildren, nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born November 24, 1922 in Fernandina, Florida to the late Manuel and Felisberta P. Canas, she grew up in Fuzeta, Portugal where she received her education. After returning to the US, Mrs. Rocha spent time in both McIntosh County before residing in Glynn County for the past 78 years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she served on the Council of Catholic Women, The Third Order of Mary, and the Sodality of Our Lady of Fatima. She was a volunteer of the parish office and at St. Vincent de Paul. She was a former customer service agent for Five Lines Transportation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Rocha Sr., a sister, Irene C. Hardy (Bill), two grandsons, Paul Rocha and Marcus Rocha, and a son in law William “Mar” Moseley.
Survivors include her children Manuel Rocha (Mary), Tony Rocha (Charlotte), Roy Rocha (Opal), Irene Benton (Robert), and Connie Moseley, a brother, Manuel Canas (Lynette) all of Brunswick, 9 grandchildren, Michael Benton (Samantha), Sherri Cousins (Tom), Kim Leggett (Curtis), Angie Rocha (Jack), Pam Collins (Steve), Joe Rocha (Becky), Todd Rocha (Tara), Aerie Gebhardt (Michael), and Garrett Moseley, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be prayed Sunday afternoon March 4, 2018 at 4:45PM in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends following from 5PM until 7 PM.
