Marie Porter

Marie Porter, 76, of Brunswick, departed this life Saturday, September 22, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, September 27, 2018 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery with Jason Porter, William Porter, Timothy Hill, Christopher Malone, Daniel Malone, Jr., and Steve Brewer serving as pallbearers.

Born October 7, 1941 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Leonard B. and Maxine B. Spaulding, she was a 1959 Graduate of Glynn Academy. Mrs. Porter was the former owner and operator of Book Exchange and Craft Shop of Altama for 35 years, where she was known as the “Western Union Lady”. She was a member of Coastal Georgia CB Club in the 70’s. Mrs. Porter was christened in the Lutheran Church and was a lifelong resident of Glynn County. She was an avid reader, avid crafter, a great cook and was known especially for her “Groovy Gravy”. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Porter, a son Ricky Allen Porter, a sister, Harriet Bostick, and a grandson, Joe Porter.

Survivors her children, Melissa Malone (Daniel) of Brunswick, Terry Wayne Porter (Tina) of Brantley County, Michael Lewis Porter of Brunswick, and Teresa Lynn Hill (Timothy) of Brantley County, a brother, Leonard “Speedy” Spaulding, Jr., of Brunswick, a sister, Shirley Haggins (Bobby) of Clewiston, FL, and two half-brothers, Gene and Chris Spaulding of Homestead, FL, 9 grandchildren, Kimberly Poland, Holly Porter, Heidi Haughton, Shannon Sellers, Luke Porter, Jason Porter, Christopher Malone, Daniel Malone, Jr., and Amber Malone Inturbide, 18 great grandchildren, cousin, Fran Crum of Brunswick as well as many other cousins, dear friends, Marie Gray and Eileen Chaney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, September 26, 2018, from 6Pm until 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
