Marta Torrey

Born in Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Torrey was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Thompson and Joseph Prisk Bender, Sr. and had lived in St. Simon’s for 51 years. Mrs. Torrey graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Survivors include her husband, William F. Torrey, Jr., her son William F. Torrey, III and daughter in law Keller, of Roswell, GA, her daughter Elisabeth Torrey Ansley, of St. Simon’s, grandchildren William F. Torrey, IV, Keller Thompson Torrey, Frances Torrey Ansley, Sarah Elisabeth Woodward, and Mallory Suzanne Morgenroth. Additional survivors include her brother Joseph P. Bender, Jr. and sister in law Marian, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Alan Bender.

Mrs. Torrey will be remembered by her many friends at Christ Church Frederica as well as by her tennis partners, her bridge group and those with whom she shared her artistic talents.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 11:00am at Christ Church Frederica. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glenco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525 or to the College of Coastal Georgia, 1 College Drive, Brunswick, GA 31520.
