

Mary Sullivan Helow passed away January 8, 2022 at Marsh's Edge, St Simons Island at the age of 101. Born in Kansas, Ohio, October 17, 1920. She was the daughter of Helen E. and Frank J. DeVanna and the wife of the late William J. Sullivan who died in 1973 and the late Joseph A. Helow who died in 1996. She was preceded in death by her sister and four brothers, all of Ohio.
Mary is survived by her youngest brother, Francis of Fremont , Ohio and sister-in-law Margaret Helow of Jacksonville, Florida.
She was a loving Mother to Thomas P. Sullivan (Tammey), Maureen Sullivan, Patrice S. Vincent, Diane S. Ghioto (Bob), Ron J. Helow (Ann), and Mark J. Helow. Grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a talented seamstress, always making lovely dresses for her three daughters. Mary enjoyed cooking for her family serving up many Irish and Lebanese dishes. She was an active volunteer in her parish church and school. Mary delighted in attending the numerous special family occasions in Jacksonville, the care of her garden, playing bridge with “The Beauclerc Bells”.
A memorial Mass is planned for a later date at Saint William Catholic Church, Saint Simons Island, Georgia.
Mary’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. James Greene, everyone in his office, and the staff and many care-givers and friends at Marsh's Edge along with Hospice of the Golden Isles for their attentive and loving care.
Memorial contributions can be made to St Francis Xavier Catholic School Building Fund. With a recent ground breaking, St Francis Xavier School is embarking on the construction of a new 30,000 square foot, state of the art Catholic School supporting pre-school through 8th grade.
