Mary Jo was born December 25, 1943 in Jesup, Georgia to the late Lemmie Britton Poppell, and the late Cecil Clifford Cox Poppell. She had lived most of her life in McIntosh County, and was a member of Darien Church of God. Mary Jo had many careers. She worked at B&W as a certified welder for many years. She also was a Para Pro in Ware County School System for the kindergarten and the First Grade. Mary Jo’s last employment was with the Altama Delta Shoe Factory in McIntosh County which she worked with for many years.
Mary Jo’s favorite hobby was growing flowers in her yard. She also enjoyed listening to and singing gospel and country music. She loved her family and they were her pride and joy.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Pamela Gore and husband Lamar; and daughter, Mary Frances Rowe; one sister, Patricia Griffin(Ferrell); five brothers, Sammy Poppell, Robert Poppell, Herman Poppell, Carl Poppell(Jackie) and David Poppell(Connie); four grandchildren, John Allen, Shannon Richardson and husband Tad, Jack Lamar Gore, III and wife Haley and George Gore. Mary Jo leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Austin, Addison and Andrew Richardson and Aspen and Jack Gore. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband Albert Edward Lane; three brothers George Poppell; Clarence Poppell and Herbert Poppell; and a child, Carolyn Ann Wallace.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave., in Brunswick, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. with Reverend Tommy Whaley officiating.
