Born May 5, 1927 in LaGrange, Georgia, Micki was a graduate of Griffin High School, Class of 1944. She worked as a finance officer for the Federal Government in Atlanta for 35 years, returning to Griffin after her retirement at the young age of 55. After several years during which she sold real estate and cared for her mother until her death, Micki moved to St. Simons Island to enjoy the beach. There she met and married her husband Ned Roberts in the early 90s and immediately embraced her role as stepmother and grandmother, sister-in-law and aunt. Ned convinced her to take up the game of golf, which she continued to play until her early 80s, closely following the game and those friendships until her death.
Micki was a member of both the Sea Palms and Sea Island clubs. She enjoyed spending time with friends and staff at Sea Island, the Beach Club and the Cloister, and had her own personal chair at the Tavola Bar on Friday nights. She began to outlive some of her closest friends, but continued to make new friends of all ages. She loved the beach, tending her patio garden and her tomato plants, overseeing the prettiest yard in the neighborhood, and her beloved feline companions. She threw herself a fantastic 90th birthday party at the Sea Island Beach Club in May of this year.
In addition to her parents and sister, she was preceded in death by her husband, L. Ned Roberts.
Micki was much beloved by her extended family and large group of friends of all ages and walks of life. She is survived by stepdaughter Bonnie Roberts of Jacksonville, FL and her children Bill and Stephanie Wilder of Fort Stewart, GA and Sara Wilder of Raleigh, NC; stepdaughter Luanne Roberts Billstein and her husband Bob Billstein of Toledo, OH, their children Drew and Emily Billstein of Durango, CO, Devin Billstein of San Antonio, TX, Courtney and Morgan Billstein of Toledo, OH; her brother-in-law Monty Roberts and his wife Ann of Knoxville, TN, and their children Ceci and Joe Ruzzene and Matt Roberts of Knoxville, TN.
Micki did not want a formal funeral or graveside service of any kind. Instead, her friends will gather for a reception on Friday, September 1st, 2017, 5 PM until 7 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, GA. She will be buried alongside her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Micki’s name can be made to the St. Simons Land Trust (1624 Frederica Rd # 6, P.O. Box 24615, Saint Simons Island, GA 31522) or to a charity of one’s choice.
