Randy Alan Powell, age 73, gained his heavenly wings on Friday morning, February 27, 2026, in Brunswick, Georgia. Randy was born on July 6, 1952 at Camp Pickett, Virginia near the town of Blackstone to Dorothy Lee (Greene) and Robert Maxwell Powell. As an Army brat, Randy moved around a bit with his family, eventually settling in Augusta, GA. Randy graduated high school from Hephzibah High in Augusta, GA.
Randy was a legendary bartender and friend to anyone who knew him well. His wet and dry sense of humor would keep you in stiches for hours. His knowledge of music and the music industry was his passion, and it came through in his selection of music on any given night at Murphy’s Tavern on St. Simons Island where he owned and/or worked for over 30 years. His past work in the music industry and bar background began in Augusta in the 70’s where he managed local legendary bars called The Whipping Post and Katmandu.
Randy loved each of his children and grandchildren with a deep love and only and always wanted the best for them that life could offer. After being born-again in 1995, Randy was baptized on a mission trip in the Indian Ocean in South Africa. Randy will be so missed by his loving family but their comfort at this time is knowing that he is with his Savior, and is no longer in pain and suffering and will one day walk (and run again) on the streets of gold!
Randy was predeceased by his mother, Dot, his father, Bob, and his older brother, Roger Dale. Randy is survived by his brothers, Robert Powell of Augusta, Johnny Powell of Marietta, and Jimmy Blackburn of Burbank and a sister, Cathi Murphy of Augusta. He is also survived by his loving Stepmother, Ha Thi Powell, of Burbank, and his 3 children, Waylon Cawley of Atlanta, Jasmine Powell, and Samantha Gilder of Brunswick, and his 5 grandchildren, Waylon Wyatt Cawley, Jr., Alicia Cawley, Aaliyah Powell, Tilly Gilder and Emmanuel Gutierrez, along with his nephew, Robert Powell, Jr., a niece, Jenna (Powell) Ayers and nephew Joshua (Josh) Powell, and his Aunt Carrie (of Morganton, NC).
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. We welcome all friends and family to gather for story-telling, good music and finger foods. As Randy would say to us all ……. “That’s all folks!”
