Richard A. (Dick) Rymer of St. Simons Island died Wednesday, November 17th, 2021. He was 82 years old.
Richard was born October 11th, 1939 in Richland Township, Belmont County, Ohio to Charles Obie Rymer and Helen Eliza Hammel. He married his high school sweetheart Constance Lee (Connie) Barnes in 1960. After making a home and having two sons in Columbus, Ohio, Richard’s work took them to Omaha, NE; Naperville, IL; Sparta, NJ; then back to Naperville.
Richard built a career with the Liquid Carbonic Corporation, an industrial gas firm. He rose from selling dry ice to become Executive Vice President of the company’s CO2 division before retiring to St. Simons Island in 1997.
He was a star high school quarterback who later watched every one of his sons’ games from the end zone. He was also an avid golfer, winning several championships, shooting four hole-in-ones and making great friends on the course throughout his lifetime.
He loved sharing St. Simons with his family and grandchildren. Together they rode bikes, explored the beaches and parks, and enjoyed many memorable southern meals.
Predeceased by his wife and two siblings, he is survived by his brother Jerry of Greenville, SC; his sons Scott of St. Simons Island and Brady (Bridget) of Southold, NY; and his grandchildren Gus and Daisy.
The family will receive visitors December 3rd at 6 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick. A graveside funeral service will be held December 4th at 11 AM at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
