Bob was born October 2, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Kenneth and Libby Montgomery Tyrer. Bob came to Brunswick in the 1940’s when his father took a position with the Liberty ship building project. He attended Glynn County schools and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1954. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served. On departure from the Marine Corp, he attended South Georgia College. Bob’s work career began at the age of 13 when he delivered groceries on his bicycle for Hayman’s Grocery. He later worked as a soda jerk and then a car hop at Twin Oaks Restaurant. He also worked at Hercules, Inc., Firestone Co., various construction jobs, and then Brunswick Cellulose. He retired from Brunswick Cellulose after 35 years.
Bob was Senior Vice Commandant of Marine Corp League Glynco Detachment 716. He was a member of New Day Christian Fellowship.
Bob will be remembered as a quiet man, slow to anger but quick to defend his loved ones and his beliefs. He enjoyed woodworking and was a whiz at crossword puzzles. He loved holidays with his family when he could make his special chili. He adored his precious dogs, Glory Be, Amazing Gracie, Lawdy Mercy Chile, and Hallie Louya. They will greatly miss “Top Dog”.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; three sons – Butch (wife Donna), Rick (wife Leslie), Robby (wife BethAnn); eight much loved grandchildren – Lindsey, Luke (fiancé Lacie), Jake, Jayme, Matthew, Evan, Cole, and Anna; two great grandsons – Ryan and William; a sister – Sandra Hutto all of Brunswick; and a host of very special nieces and nephews.
