Robert Tommy Thomas Horton Sr

Tommy was born November 4, 1935 in Brunswick, Georgia to R. L. and Mattie Horton and was a lifelong resident, graduating from Glynn Academy in the Class of 1953.

Tommy was formerly employed by Horton Electric Co. and retired as Head of the Electrical Department with the City of Brunswick. He was a radio communications officer with the Georgia Air National Guard and retired with the rank of Major. He was also a charter member of the Ballard Volunteer Fire Department serving as First Assistant Chief for over 30 years.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Libby Horton, a son, Robert T. Horton, Jr. (Nancy) of St. Marys, Ga., two daughters, Amy Beeler (Todd) of Savannah and Holly Carter (Sidney) of Brunswick, six granddaughters, Erin and Alley Horton of St. Marys, Abbey Beeler of Savannah and Laura, Tara and Ella Carter of Brunswick, a brother, James H. Horton (Sandra) of Brunswick and many extended family members.

The Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday 1/24/12 in the Pine Ridge Baptist Church with Reverends Edward Hurst, Michael Gibbs and Steve Kegley. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery with Firefighters Honors at the Graveside.

Active pallbearers will be: J. C. Carter, Charles R. Carlin, Jr., Wyndel Herndon, Jack McMenamin, Manual Canas, Harold Shadron, James Eunice and Clifton Worth. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Abraham Cheong, Dr. David Heine, Glynn Academy Class of 1953, present and former members of the Glynn County Fire Department, retired members of the 224th Georgia Air National Guard, and employees of the City of Brunswick.

The family will receive friends in the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Monday and request in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles or the American Cancer Society.
